New Interstate Batteries Ad

January 13, 2008 | 711 views | by Alex | Filed under: Fun

Last week I saw our new commercial the first time. I have to say, I was impressed. Really good job! Especially because it’s not easy to do a good and funny commercial about batteries :)

The guy in the ad is our boss, he does a great job.

And how do you like the ad?

It probably took a lot of hard work and time, I commend them for that. However, I honestly don’t find it funny. From an ad stand point it really isn’t new with blends into the other commercials, it reminds me of all the other battery commercials like the energizer bunny powering the city or powering a spaceship. From a messaging standpoint, it makes the the researchers look incompetent, which in turn makes the company look unprofessional. Which doesn’t seem like a good positive ad. I think there might have been a more creative way of showing the concept of a little bit of race/nascar experience/and spirit in every battery. Instead of the literal hit you over the head message.

Hey Kaivan, thanks for your comment. And you are right, it’s not a whole new concept what they use. But like I said, it is not easy to find something for a battery commercial.

Because of the messaging stand point, that is going to send a bad message is a little bit too exaggerate imho. I htink you analyze this too much and put too much thought in it. What if we do it with every commercial, for example the energizer bunny:

“It’s a bunny, it’s pink, omg, some people maybe think pink is gay -> gay is weak -> battery is weak.”

It’s a nice, laid back, positive ad in my opinion which I think does a great job. And there is no reasson to think much about it :)
It didn’t laugh my butt off, when I saw it, but it put me a smile on my face.

Ol’ Norm, Yea he is cool. You should read his book “Beyond The Norm” and you will understand the man behind the ad.

As the ad states “Every Battery For Every Need”, that says it all. That was the whole ad, the rest was fun and games.

    How to build an ad.

    1) Statements about the product
    2) Statements about the company
    3) Just a little Fun (Entertainment)
    4) Statements about the product
    5) Statements about the company

PS. Thank You For Buying “Interstate Batteries”

Ol’ Norm is a really great guy. As his son Scott is, both are down to earth and treating everybody with respect and dignity
